Making Peace

What's it all about?

God loves us just the way we are, but He loves us too much to leave us that way.

Many of us have endured painful experiences, traumas or hurtful relationships in the past that - if left unresolved - can block us from being all that God intends for us to be in the present.

The Making Peace weekend retreat is a small group experience that is designed to identify and address foundational issues which must be resolved in order for us to grow in our relationship with Christ and with others.

What to Expect

The retreat provides a safe, confidential place to examine yourself, your relationship with God and your relationship with others. Biblical principles will be incorporated in teaching times, shared learning experiences and group discussion to help you break free from the burdens and bondage of the past and to discover the truth and freedom of who you are in Christ. Men and women are invited.

Who Should Attend?

Making Peace may be for you if...

  • you grew up in a home where there was uncontrolled yelling or alcoholism or physical, sexual or emotional abuse
  • you lost a parent through death or divorce before you reached adulthood
  • you lost a sibling prior to adulthood
  • you have difficulty controlling your anger
  • you suffer from chronic back/neck pain, ulcers or intestinal problems
  • you have sought counseling or have sensed a need to do so
  • you're a workaholic or are addicted to alcohol or other drugs, or married to someone with these addictions
  • you have an eating disorder
  • there are things from your family of origin that you do not want to pass on to your own children

Follow-up Small Group

An important aspect of Making Peace is the 12-week follow-up small group utilizing the workbook Making Peace With Your Past (part of the same series as Experiencing God and Mind of Christ). This gives opportunity to internalize lessons learned during the weekend and to encourage one another in the growth process. This group will be led by a facilitator, at no additional cost.

How did it all Start?

In 1991 the first Making Peace weekend was held for pastors in North Carolina. The response and enthusiasm were great, and as a result, over 1500 more men and women have attended 150 such seminars since that time.
